The heat is on!
Heat advisory in effect from 11a today to 7p Thursday
As Glenn Frey once famously said, “the heat is on.” And that’s the case for us starting today. This afternoon, air temperatures across Southern New England climb into the upper 80s and it will feel more like the mid 90s when you factor the humidity in.
We have a Heat Advisory in effect from 11am today until 7pm on Thursday, with heat index values climbing to the upper 90s by tomorrow. I wouldn’t be surprised if this Heat Advisory is extended all the way to Friday, as well. Be sure to use a little extra caution today if you spend time outdoors. The exception to this heat is along the South Coast – where a seabreeze will make temperatures feel much more seasonable. Keep in mind it will still feel very muggy no matter where you are.
We do have a chance for a spotty shower inland later on this afternoon, but most will stay dry. The better chance of seeing some shower/storm activity will be Thursday and Friday as a front moves through. The good news is, this front will usher in a much more comfortable airmass for the day on Saturday. Saturday is the pick of the weekend, remaining dry with temperatures in the low 80s and noticeably less humid.
Something else we’re watching in the weather office: a disorganized area of thunderstorms around the Florida Peninsula. Although it won’t bring us direct impacts, it is forecast to move into the Gulf and has a 40% chance of tropical cyclone formation in the next 48 hours. If it does form, it would become Dexter, the 4th named storm of the season.
Have a great Tuesday!
