Police bodycam shows moments ICE agents arrested Honduran national in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department released body camera footage from the day officers were in the area for a crash when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a man.

On July 13, Providence police officers responded to Alverson Avenue for reports of multiple vehicle accidents, one of which included an ICE vehicle, according to a spokesperson for Providence police.

Police said while officers remained in the area to “maintain safety of the crowd” and document the accidents, an individual wanted by ICE exited a home and “turned himself in to ICE agents.”

According to ICE Boston and New England, agents arrested Ivan Meza, a Honduran national, in Providence.

ICE said Meza has faced three charges for fentanyl trafficking and that he is a “self-admitted MS-13 member.”

The city spokesperson added that “as is protocol, police officers did not assist ICE agents.”
