RI group highlighting ‘immigrant defense zones’ of businesses who will refuse warrantless ICE entry

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Local business owners are joining with an immigration advocacy group in Providence Friday morning, to call for “immigrant defense zones.”

According the Rhode Island Deportation Defense Coalition those “zones” would be businesses that pledge to protect, or harbor, immigrants and migrants, and, quote “refuse entry to immigration officials who do not have a judicial warrant.”

The group highlighted the Boston arrest of Paul Dama, a Nigerian immigrant who manages Suya Joint in Boston, and on Westminster Street in Providence.

That press conference will be at 11 a.m. at the Crown Fried Chicken restaurant on Broad Street.
