‘Dedicated leader’: Victim in deadly Block Island plane crash identified

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The person who died in a Wednesday Block Island plane crash has been identified, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in Fultonville, NY. 

Dan Wilson, a legislator in Montgomery County, died from injuries sustained in the crash of the small plane at approximately 12:30 p.m. on the runway at Block Island State Airport.

“Dan was a thoughtful and dedicated leader who left a meaningful impact on our community. He will be greatly missed,” said Montgomery County Executive Pete Vroman in a Facebook post.

Wilson was the legislator of District 5 in the county, and was a civil engineer for over 50 years and served as Chairman of the Physical Services Committee.

The crash is still under investigation by local and federal authorities.
