Rhode Island judge McConnell subject to ‘pizza-doxings,’ threats after Trump spending cuts pause

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As swaths of President Donald Trump’s agenda are held up in courts across the country, some reactions to these proceedings have hit close to home.

According to the Associated Press, Rhode Island District Judge John J. McConnell, Jr has been subject to several instances of “pizza-doxing,” essentially a modern rebranding of the old-time prank of ordering a pizza or pizzas to someone’s house.

These acts, while relatively harmless, come with a veiled threat.

The pizzas are often delivered to “Daniel Anderl.”

Anderl was the 20-year-old son of New Jersey District Judge Esther Salas; he was killed in 2020 when a litigant posed as a delivery worker and fired shots at the judge’s home in 2020.

Along with the pizzas, judges, including McConnell, have been subject to threatening phone calls, one that “called for his assassination,” according to the AP.

McConnell made national headlines in March when he ruled to pause President Donald Trump’s spending cuts.
