Resident hospitalized after Attleboro fire expected to face charges
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — One person has been hospitalized and 24 others have been displaced after a fire at an Attleboro apartment complex Thursday.
While the official cause of the fire still has yet to be determined, investigators said that a potential cause of this fire was the lithium ion batteries on a resident’s scooter.
“These batteries pack a lot of power into a very small domain. They have what’s known as a high energy density, and when they fail, they fail rapidly and violently, giving off toxic and flammable gasses, and of course oftentimes sparks and flames,” Jake Wark from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Safety.
The hospitalized resident is expected to face criminal charges.
Attleboro police said they found equipment consistent with manufacturing meth in their apartment.
