Famiglietti elected District 4 State Senator, Houle and DeLellis elected to Coventry Town Council

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Stefano Famiglietti was elected as the District 4 State Senator Tuesday night, according to unofficial Rhode Island Board of Elections results.
He won the Special Election against Republican Alex Asermely with more than 80% of the vote.
Famiglietti will replace the late Senate President Dominick Ruggerio, who died in April after a battle with cancer at the age of 76.
A joint statement from President of the Senate Valarie J. Lawson, Senate Majority Leader Frank A. Ciccone III, and Senate Majority Whip David P. Tikoian read as follows:
“Congratulations to Senator-elect Stefano Famiglietti on his successful campaign and well-earned victory in the election. His deep roots in the community and clear understanding of the priorities of District 4 have resonated with voters, and his commitment to public service is a strong reflection of the values exemplified by Senate President Dominick Ruggerio. As he prepares to take on this new role in the Rhode Island Senate, we look forward to working alongside him to strengthen our communities and ensure Rhode Island remains a great place to live and work.”
The RI Board of Elections also released the results of the Town Council Coventry Special Election.
Richard J. Houle won District 3 and Robert J. DeLellis won District 5.
Both ran unopposed.
The Coventry election follows controversy on the town council, including the handling of Johnson’s Pond and the resignation of councilors James LeBlanc and Scott Copley, of Districts 3 and 5, after alleging corruption among other town council members, and violations of the town’s charter.
