New Bedford man sentenced to over a year in prison for carrying illegal firearm

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Bristol Count District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III said a New Bedford man was sentenced to prison for carrying an illegal firearm.

Iussufi Vieira-Jau was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison on Aug. 11.

Vieira-Jau was arrested on July 2, 2023 after police were called to Beetle Street for reports of a disturbance involving a firearm. 

The defendant was stopped in his vehicle and told police that he was carrying a firearm, which he did not have a license for.
