RIDOH recommends closing swimming areas at 2 Newport beaches due to bacteria counts

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health said it was recommending closing the swimming areas at pouting Rock Beach Association and Gooseberry Beach in Newport due to high bacteria counts.

RIDOH said it monitors bacteria counts in bodies of water through Labor Day.

Up-to-date statuses of swimming areas can be heard in a pre-recorded message by calling 401-222-2751.
