Swansea Police say 3 men charged in connection to car break-ins and thefts
SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — The Swansea Police Department said three men have been charged in connection to a series of car thefts and break-ins in July.
18-year-old Syaire Burgos, of Lawrence, was charged with three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, 11 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, larceny over $1,200, three counts of larceny under $1,200, and conspiracy.
27-year-old Luis Santiago, of New Bedford, was charged with seven counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, 26 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, 14 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, two counts of larceny over $1,200, 15 counts of larceny under $1,200, two counts of attempt to commit a crime, and conspiracy.
24-year-old Brian Santiago, of Fall River, was charged with seven counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, 26 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, 14 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, two counts of larceny over $1,200, 15 counts of larceny under $1,200, improper use of a credit card under $1,200, two counts of attempt to commit a crime, and conspiracy.
Swansea police said between July 3 and 10, about 25 residents reported that their cars had been broken into, with the majority of thefts occurring between 3:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.
Police said seven vehicles were allegedly stolen during that time period, in which six have been recovered.
According to Swansea police, Burgos, Luis Santiago, and Brian Santiago were arrested in late July by Wareham police in connection to the thefts.
Burgos was arraigned on Aug. 14 and held on $20,000 bail.
Luis Santiago and Brian Santiago remain in police custody and will be arraigned at a later date.
