RI attorney general launches investigation into Eleanor Slater Hospital
"For several weeks the Office has been obtaining information from a variety of sources regarding the past and ongoing operation of those hospitals. That work continues," dosReis concluded.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The office of the Attorney General has launched an investigation into the Eleanor Slater Hospital, officials confirmed Monday.
The hospital has locations in Cranston and Burrillville and treats residents with long-term medical and psychiatric needs. It has come under fire over a downsizing plan that critics say has led to the discharge of patients with few or no care alternatives.
“This Office has broad responsibilities in health and patient care, including regulatory, civil, and criminal jurisdiction, through our Medicaid Fraud Control and Patient Abuse Unit and under our statutory authority as the state’s Health Care Advocate,” spokesperson Kristy dosReis told ABC6 in a statement. “This Office remains concerned about the ongoing situation at Eleanor Slater and Zambarano Hospitals, particularly as it pertains to patient care.”
“For several weeks the Office has been obtaining information from a variety of sources regarding the past and ongoing operation of those hospitals. That work continues,” dosReis concluded.
According to the Associated Press, last week, Governor Dan McKee appointed a top administration official to take charge of the state agency that operates Eleanor Slater Hospital.
Health and Human Services Secretary Womazetta Jones was asked to take interim leadership of the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals.
