Suspect in Cranston murder of teen to appear for arraignment

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The suspect in the August 11 Cranston murder of a 16-year-old has waived extradition and will be arraigned at Kent County 3rd District Court in Warwick Friday.
D’Maury Monteiro, 19, of Fall River, is accused of shooting and killing Eduardo Loran Colon of Providence at approximately 3 a.m. on August 11, according to Cranston police.
Monteiro was transported to Cranston Police Headquarters Friday morning, according to Cranston Police Col. Michael Winquist.
The incident, which Winquist said “almost looked like an execution,” took place at the Pocasset Village Apartments on Dyer Avenue in Cranston.
Cranston police detectives said that Pocasset Village surveillance video of the incident showed three male subjects arriving at the complex in a stolen vehicle.
This included Monteiro, Colon and another male subject, according to Cranston police detectives.
They then exited the car and began searching other vehicles with flashlights, according to Winquist.
At this time, one of the subjects is seen pulling a weapon and firing four shots at an individual, the victim Colon, coming around the back of the car, according to Winquist.
Monteiro then fled the scene in a vehicle, according to Cranston police.
Winquist said that Colon ran a short distance and collapsed and was found six hours later.
Monteiro was arrested August 12 in Dorchester, Mass, according to Winquist.
Monteiro’s arraignment is expected to occur at 2 p.m., but is subject to change.
