WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A house fire on Park Avenue sent thick smoke billowing into the air Sunday.

The fire started just after 1 p.m.

A family that lived there told ABC6 News that everyone got out safely, but a number of their pet cats were still unaccounted for.

The Woonsocket Fire Department said approximately 10 people lived in the multi-family home, and everyone had evacuated when firefighters arrived.

The fire department said it did not find any animals inside.

Viewer video shared with ABC6 News showed heavy flames coming from the side of a home.

The family that spoke with ABC6 News shared more information on a GoFundMe page.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause, the deputy chief said.

A spokesperson for the American Red Cross said the organization is helping the 10 people who lived in the home — eight adults and two children.
