Back-to-school forecast is looking great
A chance for a stray shower this afternoon, more widespread rain on Friday
Today is a special day as it marks back-to-school for a number of districts across Southern New England,. This includes the Providence Public Schools, Pawtucket, New Bedford, and Fall River. Luckily, the forecast is looking pretty great today – another day fit for some outdoor recess. The low humidity and mild temperatures we experienced yesterday continue today and really through the rest of the forecast as well, all thanks to a dip in the jet stream bringing us cooler, drier air from Canada.
Expect highs this afternoon in the low-to-mid 70s, with the coolest temps along the coast. There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine today, which could give way to a stray popup shower later on as a cold front moves through. Timing on this would be about 2-5pm or so, and I think the vast majority of us stay dry.
The next chance for some (much-needed) soaking rains arrives Friday with a stronger cold front. Expect showers to be in the mix after lunchtime and into the evening, with a few embedded downpours and maybe even a couple rumbles of thunder possible. This all clears out for the holiday weekend, and we have lots of sunshine Sat-Mon.
Have a great day!
