New NextGen Acela high-speed train to begin DC-Boston service

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A new high-speed rail begins between Boston and Washington, DC Thursday.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Amtrak President Roger Harris will be part of the official launch.

The two leaders will set out on the new Amtrak “NextGen Acela” high-speed train, from Washington, DC’s Union Station to Boston South Station on different legs.

The launch introduces 28 brand new trains entering service through 2027.

It features 27 percent more seats per departure and expanded weekday and weekend service.
