McKee, Healey join other coastal governors in dissent against Trump wind cuts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Trump administration’s fight against windmills has taken another turn, with the transportation department cancelling millions in federal offshore wind project funding.

The White House is cutting off nearly $680 million in federal funding for wind farm projects across the US.

This comes a week after the trump administration froze all work on the Revolution wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island.

The White House maintains it’s a cost cutting measure to ensure American “dominance.”

In response, we’re hearing from New England governors.

In a statement, Governors Dan McKee and Maura Healey joined their counterparts in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York in asking the Trump administration to “Uphold all offshore wind permits already granted,” citing the time, funds and plans already allocated for offshore construction.

The Democratic governors add, the constant start-stops and uncertain economic moves the White House has made since January threaten the fabric of the nation’s market.
