Freetown Police arrest juvenile after pursuit
FREETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Freetown Police Department said a juvenile was arrested after causing a police pursuit and entering railroad property on Tuesday afternoon.
The juvenile was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle, speeding, stop sign violation, marked lanes violation, and trespassing on railroad property.
According to Freetown police, officers attempted to pull over a dirt bike traveling about 60 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone on East Howland Road around 1:30 p.m.
Police added the vehicle was unregistered and did not have a license plate.
While attempted to stop the vehicle, the dirt bike approached the Chace Road railroad crossing, in which “warning lights and safety arms were activated for a passing MBTA train,” according to police.
The driver did not stop, but turned south and drove along the railroad tracks while the train passed.
Police said all train traffic in the area was stopped as police pursued a foot chase.
After a search of the area, police found the juvenile on a trail, where they were taken into custody without incident.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in Fall River Juvenile Court on Sept. 3.
