Virginia truck driver admits to transporting minor victim for sex, DOJ says

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Virginia truck driver admitted to having sexual contact with a minor girl in multiple states and transporting her in his truck, Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said.
55-year-old David Romero Reyes, of Stafford, Virginia, pled guilty to transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
According to Bloom, Reyes was attempting to enter a naval base in Newport when he was stopped by police for a routine background check.
Reyes was detained after Naval Station Newport Police discovered he was wanted in Texas on a charge of felony assault of a child.
During a routine inspection of the truck, a young girl was found inside the sleeping compartment of the truck, according to Bloom.
The victim was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where she was determined to be five months pregnant.
Bloom said the girl was reported missing from her home in Virginia in July of 2020 at the age of 14 years old.
Investigation showed that Reyes was known to the victim and her family.
Reyes is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 2.
