Fall River Fire Department receives donation of seven pet oxygen masks

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fall River Fire Fighters union IAFF Local 1314 announced that the city’s fire department has received seven complete sets of pet oxygen mask kits through the City of Fall River and Local 1314.

The kits are comprised of individually-sized masks that are designed to fit over the mouth or snout of a range of domestic animals, including kittens and large dog breeds.

According to IAFF Local 1314, the new kits are being provided to the Fall River Fire Department at no cost.

“As firefighters, we encounter countless situations where animals are victims alongside their human companions,” said the Local 1314 statement.

“With these masks now available, we will be better-equipped to save the lives of our community’s beloved pets.”

One of the masks was used to help deliver oxygen to a rescued cat on Eastern Avenue in Fall River last week, according to a social media post from Local 1314:

“The mask was used by Fall River EMS personnel with assistance from our members to provide oxygen and save the cat’s life.”
