State of Homelessness event to highlight latest data on unhoused RI residents
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Today leaders with the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness will present new data on the homelessness crisis in our state.
They’re hosting the 2025 State of Homelessness: reporting on trends and changemakers that affect them.
Last year’s address identified a 34.9 percent increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness from the prior year, and pointed to minimum wage, and the cost of housing, as factors contributing to the rising numbers.
They also noted that there were only an average of seven shelter openings per day for the more than 1,000 people waiting for shelter.
Today’s state of homelessness begins at 8:30 this morning at the WaterFire Arts Center.
It’s expected to last until 10:30, and tickets are $50.
