Providence Police honor 54 officers at annual awards ceremony

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — 54 Providence police officers were honored at the annual Providence Police Commendation Awards Ceremony on Wednesday.

According to Providence police, the officers demonstrated “exceptional service, dedication and leadership in protecting the public.”

Providence Police Colonel Oscar Perez spoke on how the collective work of the department makes the city strong and safer.

“Each of you contributes to the safety, dignity, and trust the Providence Police Department stands for,” Perez said.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley also spoke at the event, and said the awards are “not just honors, that they are a reflection of our officers courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment.”

The awards presented to officers included Life Saving, Community Service, Chief’s Award, and Mayor’s Award.
