Pedestrian struck and killed on I-95 in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A pedestrian was struck and killed while attempting to cross I-95 North Monday night, according to Captain David Bassignani of the Rhode Island State Police.
Troopers arrived at the scene at approximately 9:15 p.m. in response to a report of a struck pedestrian in the area of Point Street.
The victim was located by troopers in the high-speed lane and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Providence Fire Department personnel.
Two vehicles were involved in the incident, and both operators remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
According to Captain Bassignani, the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim attempted to cross the roadway in an easterly direction at the time of the incident.
The victim has not yet been identified and the investigation remains ongoing.
