Freetown FD: ‘Pile of shredded material’ source of Assonet recycling facility fire

ASSONET, Mass. (WLNE) — Freetown Fire Department personnel responded to a fire within “a large pile of shredded material” Tuesday night at Excel Recycling.

Crews responded to the Ridge Hill Road facility at approximately 11 p.m. along with Freetown police to find the burning material on the south side of the building, according to a Facebook post from the fire department.

Firefighters from multiple crews concentrated on protecting the building that holds the facility’s “Shredder,” and personnel were on the scene for four hours to fully extinguish the fire.

There were no injuries in the incident.
