UPDATE: Pedestrian struck in Providence by school bus dies from injuries
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A pedestrian has died after being struck by a school bus in Providence Thursday morning, according to Kristy DosReis, Providence Chief Public Information Officer for Public Safety.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:48 a.m. on Union Avenue at the Route 10 North on-ramp.
According to the preliminary investigation by Providence police, Lucas Garcia, 38, was in the crosswalk at that time and was struck by a school bus.
The bus driver and bus monitor remained on the scene and were the only occupants of the vehicle.
Garcia was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and was listed in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries, according to DosReis.
The incident remains under investigation by Providence police.
