Rhode Island students improve in latest standardized test scores

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Standardized test scores in Rhode Island have officially been released, and the state department of education says there’s been a slight uptick in scores.

According to the report, within the past year, grades three through eight showed a nearly three percent increase in ELA scores.

High schoolers exceeded 2019 ELA levels at over 51 percent proficiency.

In math, grades three through eight showed just above a one percent increase in proficiency.

SAT scores increased by nearly two percent for high schoolers in the last year.

The data shows Rhode Island has surpassed its pre-pandemic testing scores and has closed the gap in ELA and math with Massachusetts by more than 50 percent.

The report also found chronic absenteeism declined last year by 2.6 percent, another main initiative of RIDE and Governor McKee.
