Bat captured in Providence tests positive for rabies

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A rabid bat was discovered in Providence on Wednesday on Humboldt Avenue near Gladys Potter Park, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Providence animal control personnel captured the bat after reports that the animal was acting erratically.

It was tested for rabies at a RIDOH lab where the positive result was registered.

If you think you might have come into contact with the bat please call RIDOH’s Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology at 401-222-2577.

You can contact the Providence Animal Control Division (401-680-5000) or RIDOH if you think a pet might have come in contact with the bat.
