Smithfield schools investigating reported anti-Semitic hazing incident

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield School Department is investigating a report of hazing at Smithfield High School.

In a letter to families sent Thursday, the department says, they’ve learned about an incident involving members of the high school football team using anti-Semitic remarks.

The department did not list what occurred or what was said, but writes that they will not tolerate any instance of hazing, bullying, or harassments of any kind.

The department says, affected family members have been in contact with school officials, the athletic director, and head coach, to ensure the situation was addressed appropriately.
