Nor’easter on the way

High pressure gave us a nice start to the weekend, but that High is going to slowly retreat to the north somewhat on Sunday as Low pressure moves up the coastline. The pressure gradient between these two systems will be the cause for the increasing winds Sunday afternoon that will endure through Tuesday. Winds will be gusting 40-50MPH along the south coast and on the Cape while further inland gusts will be more in the 30-35mph range.

Rain will be the other story to discuss. Sunday will start out with clouds and showers will be moving up from the south during the afternoon. As we move into Sunday night and Monday morning we can expect to see periods of heavy rain at times along with some of those strongest wind gusts. Periods of rain will continue throughout Monday and slowly taper to showers for Tuesday morning. It does appear that we will be in for a good 1.5 – 2 inches of rain for most of the region, but it is possible that some locations could see up to 3 inches. The good news here is that it will be spread out over 36-48 hours so it won’t be coming down all at once causing flooding issues. That being said make sure to clear the storm drains from leaves that may be clogging things up.
