Miles of cars wait in line at weekend Pawtucket food donation event

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket-based non-profit the Elisha Project distributed 50,000 pounds of food and household essentials to Rhode Islanders in need Sunday.

The event gave out 15 pounds of meats, 25 pounds of fruit and vegetables and 45 pounds of hygiene items to 600 local families.

The Elisha Project said that the event was held to assist families at risk of losing SNAP benefits on November 1 due to the government shutdown.
