Caribbean islands bracing for impact of Hurricane Melissa
Clouds increase throughout the morning and into Tuesday afternoon. While temperatures start in the 30s and 40s, they’ll increase as well, hitting the low and mid 50s by the end of the afternoon. It’ll be breezier today, with wind speeds in the teens and gusts in the 20s. The wind, which will be coming from the north-northeast, will also provide us with an ocean-effect shower or two as well. Overnight, we have an early shower possible, a mostly cloudy sky, and temperatures in the mid 40s.
Tomorrow will be nearly identical, with northeast winds, a mostly cloudy sky, highs in the low 50s, and a few showers throughout the day.
Thursday starts out somewhat calm. We’ll be mostly cloudy and a bit breezy. Highs will be in the upper 50s. Our next big weather-maker however, arrives on Thursday evening. This storm will throw a few showers our way Thursday evening, but will bring us soaking rain Thursday night into Friday morning.
The good news is that this rain will taper off throughout Friday morning, leaving us with mostly dry conditions for the second half of Halloween! It will be windy still and highs will be in the upper 50s.
On a separate note, Hurricane Melissa is nearing landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 storm. This storm is unbelievably strong, with winds of 175mph and gusts of 215mph. Landfall looks like it will occur either late Tuesday morning or early Tuesday afternoon. The storm looks like it will still be a major hurricane as it reaches a second landfall, anticipated for Cuba on Wednesday morning.
