Body of missing elderly man recovered in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The body of a missing elderly man has been recovered in New Bedford, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn, III’s office.

Antonio Valente, 83, of New Bedford, was reported missing Sunday by family members prompting a Silver Alert.

Valente’s body was discovered Monday at approximately 8:44 p.m. behind the 122 Sawyer Street Market Basket in New Bedford.

First responders located Valente at the shoreline, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Foul play is not suspected by authorities at this time, but the investigation into cause of death remains open by the state Chief Medical Examiner.
