New Bedford 10-year plan focuses on ocean resources, economic development and land use
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Whaling City and Mayor Jon Mitchell released their comprehensive plan Thursday, a roadmap for the city for the next ten years.
Mayor Mitchell considers the plan a “prism” for city officials, with four sections comprising the document.
Those sections are rooted in economic development, helping neighborhoods thrive, strategic building and the modernization of land use.
The city’s downtown and waterfront are focal points, as is sustaining and advancing the arts in the South Coast city.
Mitchell also emphasized local manufacturing, zeroing in on renewable energy such as offshore wind despite the Trump administration’s opposition to the technology.
The ocean and its resources are cited further, including commercial fishing.
