Flight cancelations trickling in at TF Green, Logan as shutdown wears on

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As the government shut down drags on, the effects are rippling through the nation’s airports, including here in New England.

TF Green in Warwick had five canceled flights as of 6 a.m. Friday, but no delayed trips.

Logan International Airport in Boston is seeing 38 cancelations this morning and 20 delays.

Rhode Island Airport Corporation spokesperson Bill Fischer commented on how TF Green is prepping for potential Logan travelers looking toward Warwick to make their trips:

We are working with every airline that services PVD to understand local impacts. Each airline will have to make independent decisions on how they will operate. Every airport in the country will likely be impacted by this situation in some manner.

We are urging passengers to continue to check with their airline before arriving at the airport as this is a fluid situation.

Expedia travel expert Melanie Fish recommends taking a close look at your selected airline’s policies as air travel uncertainty ramps up in the face of upcoming holiday travel.

Fish said that airlines are required to issue customers a full refund in the event of a canceled or significantly changed flight.

More than three hour delays on domestic flights and over six hour stalls on international trips trigger your right to a refund.
