Woonsocket School Committee addresses recent spate of school violence
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Woonsocket School Committee faced public comment regarding multiple violent incidents at schools in the city.
39 students have been arrested by city police since the school year began in August, according to the Woonsocket Police Department.
These arrests mostly stemmed from fights at Woonsocket High School.
Two teens were arrested November 6 after one of the students was accused of making a threat involving a gun.
This alleged threat prompted a Woonsocket High School lockdown, and two firearms were seized by police in a student’s home, according to the Woonsocket Police Department.
Superintendent Dr. Patrick McGee discussed measures being taken by the district to address the incidents.
Among those solutions will be adding more counselors and security personnel to schools.
