City of Warwick opens new ice rink

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick community gathered outside City Hall Wednesday night for the soft opening of the city’s new ice skating rink.

According to Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi, the rink will officially open on Saturday and operate throughout the winter.

In the spring and summer, the area will host farmers markets and roller skating.

“I came up with this plan before I was mayor five years ago,” Picozzi said. “I always thought we should have something like this, and I worked on it as soon as I became mayor.”

After issues with contaminated soil and bidding during construction, the ice rink was completed last week.
