Providence officer struck by car during alleged narcotics seizure

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence police officer was struck by a car while executing a traffic stop Wednesday.

According to the Providence Police Department, a vehicle was stopped at approximately 4 p.m. on John Partington Way.

Officers observed alleged drug paraphernalia inside the car, and further investigation led to the seizure of suspected narcotics, according to police.

A vehicle passenger had multiple outstanding warrants in another jurisdiction, and was charged with obstruction for allegedly providing a fake name.

During the stop, one officer was struck by a passing vehicle, and the driver stopped and stayed on the scene.

The driver was cited and the officer, uninjured, stayed on duty.
