Police: Severely malnourished dog found in car during West Bridgewater traffic stop
WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Taunton man is facing an animal cruelty charge after a traffic stop revealed a severely malnourished dog in his vehicle, according to West Bridgewater police.
The 27-year-old was pulled over November 24 just before noon for allegedly running a red light on North Main Street.
The officer noticed a significantly underweight dog in the vehicle during the stop, according to police.
The nine-month old puppy named Sprout was taken to Westbridge Veterinary Referral Hospital for treatment.
According to police, an investigation determined that the driver was the dog’s owner.
Police said that the dog was determined to be severely malnourished.
The dog was transferred to the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (APCSM), where Sprout’s condition is gradually improving.
The driver, who is not being named as he has not yet been issued a criminal complaint, will be summonsed to court on the animal cruelty charge.
The APCSM is asking for donations to help with Sprout’s treatment and recovery.
