Person arrested in connection with shots fired in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said a suspect was charged in connection with a shooting on County Street on Dec. 10.

31-year-old Tyrell Sanchez was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and trafficking in 200 grams or more of cocaine.

Police said that officers responded to reports of gunshots and a motor vehicle crash where the operator fled on foot.

Police alleged that Sanchez was the operator and that he had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

A search of his vehicle allegedly found a Glock 43 handgun loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, two plastic bags of cocaine, and $2,200.

Police said that an investigation found that Sanchez had been shot at. He was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
