Providence Police release additional video, photos of person of interest in Brown University shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police have released additional footage of a person of interest connected to the Brown University shooting, according to the department.

In the newly-released photos and videos, a person can be seen wearing a mask and hat, as well as dark clothing.

In the videos, the man, who the FBI described as 5’8 and “bulky,” can be seen walking in the area of Hope Street and Benevolent Street.

Other video shows the individual walking on Waterman Street.

On Dec. 13, a gunman opened fire at the Barus and Holley Engineering Building around 4:30 p.m., killing two students and injuring nine other victims.

Brown University said multiple exams had been occurring at the building where the initial shooting took place.

Police later released surveillance footage of the suspect of interest, showing a person in dark clothing walking out of the engineering building.

Early on Dec. 14, police said a person of interest was detained at the Coventry Warwick Hampton Inn. They were released later that day.

“The evidence that we have, the scientific evidence that we have available to us, after it was analyzed, made clear that this was not someone who should be detained in connection with this case,”  Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said on ABC News Good Morning America. “So we released him and then moved on looking at other evidence and pursuing other leads pointing at additional potential individuals.”

Police are again asking members of the public for any video evidence they may have in connection with the crime.

Anyone who recognizes the individual in the video, or has any information, is asked to fill out the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s tip line or call 401-272-3121.
