Colleges across Rhode Island cancel in-person exams after Brown University shooting
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Days after the deadly shooting at Brown University, surrounding colleges are cancelling in-person exams as a safety precaution.
On Monday, Providence College, the University of Rhode Island, and the Community College of Rhode Island cancelled in-person exams.
On Facebook, Providence College announced it will cancel in-person exams for the semester and said faculty will “be in touch with their classes to provide alternatives to in-person exams.”
The University of Rhode Island said in-person exams on Monday will be rescheduled, and that students will receive information regarding their exams on their school email.
On Monday night, the Community College of Rhode Island announced that classes and exams will be held online.
This comes after CCRI announced earlier on Monday that the school would resume its “normal schedule.”
Although some colleges have cancelled in-person exams and classes, Roger Williams University still plans to hold events in person.
Roger Williams University said final exams on Monday and Tuesday will proceed “as planned,” and that it will “continue our scheduled campus offerings.”
On the Bristol campus, RWU said the Bristol Police Department will “increase patrols and augment our Public Safety presence.”
The school said the Providence campus will have RWU Public Safety as well.
