FALL RIVER, MA (WLNE) – A 19 year-old Fall River man who stabbed a man during a fight outside a middle school in March of 2016 was sentenced Tuesday and could serve up to five years behind bars.
The office of the District Attorney announced Thursday that Charles Brothers was convicted of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in November after a three-day trial in Fall River Superior Court, and was sentenced to two-and-a-half to five years in state prison Tuesday.
On March 14, 2016, Brothers, who was 18 at the time, joined a group of juveniles who were fighting another juvenile outside of Talbot Middle School. Seeing he was outnumbered, the young man being attacked called his father for help. When the father arrived the juveniles surrounded and attacked him and his son. Brothers then attacked the father, stabbing him twice in the back and once in the chest. The victim suffered serious injuries.
During sentencing Tuesday, District Attorney Thomas Quinn said “This violent, outrageous conduct is simply unacceptable, especially outside of a school. It is distressing that an 18-year-old is engaged in this vicious behavior”.
