PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The suspect in Providence’s most recent murder was held without bail in court Wednesday morning.

Nathan Spardello, 35, faced a judge for the first time and was ordered held without bail. He did not enter a plea.

Providence Police say Spardello stabbed a man to death on Russo Street Monday night.

Luis Carrillo, 35, was pronounced dead at the hospital after being repeatedly stabbed at his apartment around 10 p.m. Monday.

Spardello fled to the Parenti Villa apartment complex – where his father lives – and took a resident hostage, according to police.

After hours of negotiation, the SWAT team took Spardello into custody.

Police have also linked Spardello to a series of domestic assaults from earlier that day.

Charges in the domestic and hostage situations are pending.
