New Bedford police arrest 2 men after assault with firearms

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said that two men were arrested after an alleged assault involving firearms on Jan. 20.

18-year-old Yomar Colon and 20-year-old Jose Velez, both of Providence, were charged with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm and ammunition without an FID card.

Police said that two officers responded to a gas station for reports of a disturbance.

An individual told police that when they went to their apartment complex on Lafrance Court they were confronted by two individuals who struck the victim in the face and then brandished firearms.

After a search warrant of was issued police took the suspects into custody and allegedly found a Charter Arms .38 Special revolver and 50 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition.
