PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A double rollover that left one car on the side of I-95 South, has landed one man in handcuffs Thursday evening.

Thomas J. Donaldson, 28, of Providence, was charged with driving under the influence, serious bodily injury resulting, driving to endanger resulting in personal injury, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, following the serious crash in the area of John J. Partington Way and I-95 South around 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

“Donaldson was heading south in the high-speed lane of Interstate 95 when he abruptly changed lanes and struck the back of another car, which went off the road and flipped onto its roof,” said Laura Meade Kirk with Rhode Island State Police.

“The collision caused Donaldson to also lose control of his car, which went up an embankment and rolled over near the Service Road that runs parallel to the highway.”

It was originally reported that one vehicle lost control and rolled over, and the second vehicle, while trying to avoid the first crash, also rolled over.

One person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital as a result of the crash. Their condition is critical at this time.

Donaldson was also transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was arraigned, according to State Police.
