Hammer attack victim remains in critical condition

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE)- A Warren woman is getting all kinds of support after being attacked with a hammer by her son.

A Gofundme has been set up for the 53-year-old victim and is taking off quickly.

The fundraiser has over $2,600 in donations after just three days.

The attacker, 34-year-old Kevin Mendes, left his mother covered in blood with the hammer laying next to her on Monday morning, according to police.

Mendes has been charged with domestic assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling house with the intent to commit murder.

He was held without bail and has since been ordered to take a competency evaluation by the judge.
