New Bedford city councilor facing OUI charges following crash investigation

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – New Bedford city councilor Hugh Dunn faces multiple charges after an investigation into his involvement in a car crash, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday.
Police responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash in New Bedford on May 1. The DA’s Office said Dunn was found in his car a distance away from two damaged vehicles.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office conducted an independent investigation.
Dunn was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence
- Leaving the scene of property damage
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
“Based on the circumstances of the original investigation, a Special Prosecutor will be appointed to handle the prosecution of this case,” the DA’s office wrote in a release.
