TAUNTON, M.A. (WLNE) — Taunton Police said an alleged bullying case has led to a shooting in their city.
Police told ABC6 News the disturbing details that began when a group of young boys started bullying a 13-year-old boy on Facebook.
Taunton Police said two or three boys showed up to the home of the 13-year-old boy early Monday morning.
When the 13-year-old saw them he got scared, ran inside, and grabbed a rifle that belonged to his mother.
He went back outside and met the boys on Highstone Street and fired one shot.
The teen struck a 12-year-old boy in the arm, but police said the bullet then became lodged in his chest.
"My understanding at this time is that his mother had a lawful right to possess it, she had it secured in the house, he returned based on his fear of these two or three young men in his yard," said Lt. Roderick with the Taunton Police Department.
The story is developing at this time; police saying its unclear how the 13-year-old boy accessed the rifle.
Police noted the teen has been arrested and charged.
