NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – Three months ago, two Rhode Island men set out on a cross-country bike ride for a cause. Last week, they reached their final destination: North Kingstown.

Rich Kerbel and Thom Deller, both 70, started their over 3,000 mile journey for the Tour De Cure in Seaside, California. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the two men have ridden in the Tour De Cure in previous years.

Kerbel and Deller decided to take their ride national since this year’s Tour De Cure was virtual, due to the pandemic.

“This epic ride across the states is a truly incredible achievement and we are grateful to Rich and Thom for their courage and perseverance,” said Susan Sarro, Executive Director of ADA New England. “The awareness and funds they raised will help us support those living with diabetes.”

The men raised $7K for their team, called “No Matching Shirts.” The money will go toward ADA’s work.

Kerbel and Deller also documented their journey in a blog.
