Repeat domestic abuser to serve a decade in prison

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- A New Bedford man was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on Friday after numerous domestic assault charges.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday that 30-year-old Pedro Fuentes plead guilty to the following charges in Fall River Superior Court:
- Four counts of armed assault in a dwelling
- Assault and battery in violation of a restraining order
- Home invasion
- Resisting arrest
- Assault and battery on a police officer
- Assault and battery on a household member
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Intimidation and violation of a restraining order
Fuentes attacked a woman on October 3, 2019, punching and kicking her, leaving her with bruises on her face, arms, shoulders, and legs.
She filed a restraining order a day later after Fuentes threatened to kill her and her family.
On October 5, 2019 he called the woman, threatening to kill her and rape her mother.
Fuentes was arrested for the aforementioned incidents, but was back on the streets just two months later in December.
He kicked in the door of the woman’s apartment on December 9, 2019 while armed with a gun.
The woman was in the apartment with a friend and two kids. Fuentes threated them all with a gun before leaving.
Police tracked him down on December 20, when he resisted arrested and assaulted an officer.
Fuentes was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was also order to go to councilling.
“This is outrageous conduct and the defendant has clearly demonstrated that he is a danger to the community, and does not belong out on the street. This case once again highlights the importance of video surveillance in solving crimes,” said District Attorney Thomas Quinn.
Fuentes has served jail time twice before after being convicted of domestic violence related crimes.
