The longtime alternative rock station WBRU has just two days left before going off the FM dial. The student-run radio station has been broadcasting on 95.5 for 50 years.
"WBRU will end its current programming on 95.5 FM at 11:59 p.m. on August 31st,” said Art Norwalk, WBRU’s spokesman.
At midnight on September 1st, when you turn the dial to 95.5, you’ll hear the sounds of K-Love, a Christian rock radio network.
That station’s parent company bought WBRU for $5.63 million.
"There is some grief to be had,” said WBRU staffer Sam McKinney.
There’s only some grief because although WBRU is saying goodbye to radio, the station is starting a new chapter online. It will be moving its music to a live streaming format on www.wbru.com.
"By adapting to a 21st century media climate, we’re gonna set up ourselves to better reach our audience in the future,” McKinney said.
Norwalk says all of the money from the sale will go towards the new online platform.
